Keach graduated from either Van Nuys High School in June 1959 and went in to learn at a University of California, Berkeley. He continued at Yale University's School of Dramthe and was a Fulbright Scholar student at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. Keach number one appeared in Broadway in 1969 as Buffalo Bill in Indians by Arthur Kopit. He has won many awards including Obies, Drama Desk Awards, and Vernon Rice Awards. He portrayed film noir-style private detective Mike Hammer in the CBS television series ''Mickey Spillane's Mike Hammer'' from 1984 to 1987.
